Christian Aid Cut the Carbon - Edinburgh

As part of their national ‘Cut the Carbon’ Campaign, Christian Aid are organising a 1,000 mile walk across the UK. In each of four major cities (Edinburgh, Leeds, Birmingham and Cardiff) there will be a final mile walk where campaigners can join a social action walk. I’ve been working over the last few months with Affinity Events to provide full event production, logistics and contractor management for all of these events, including working with the local authorities, police and traffic offices to arrange road closures through the main city centres.

Each event finishes with a ‘concert in the park’ style event with a stage, LED screen and full event production. Again – being one for a challenge – the events have been build, rehearsed, performed and removed in less than 12 hours. Not only does this mean that there is little time for the build, but it is vital that everything goes to plan as there’s virtually no contingency time.

The Edinburgh event was prepared for up to 3,000 people and involved several trips to meet with the council to arrange the road closures and site aspects of the event. With Amy MacDonald headlining I had full client management, budget, health and safety and licensing responsibility. I created all the paperwork, sourced and managed all the contractors and was then onsite to deliver the infrastructure build.

Despite some tight access (see above!) and the rain, the event went very well – just another three to go.
