Making Our Mark

Working with Affinity Events I’ve recently been working on the Making Our Mark event which took place in London on March 24th 2007. The event was created to celebrate the tercentenary of the abolition of slavery, and was an apology from the Church for their role in the slave trade.
My role was as site manager for the final part of the event, which saw about 3,000 people walk through the streets of central London along two routes - finishing with a concert stage and speeches in Kennington Park. I looked after event infrastructure, making sure that the event build/ live event/ derig all went to plan.
The biggest challenge was that the event build, rehearsals, show and derig all took place on the same day - we were in and out within just 14 hours! A very long (and cold) day which resulted in worldwide media coverage for the Church, including stories on Sky News and the BBC News website (you can also see a video of the event here).
